Abstract

Policymakers in arid and semi-arid basins face multidimensional conditions to implement appropriate water resources management policies to drought adapttion.Due to the multidimensional nature ofwater resources management,it is necessary to integrate tools for impact analysis. On the other hand, the development ofnew irrigation technologies at the farm is a strategies that are always discussed by experts of water resources management.A hydrological-economic model has been used to evaluate the potential effects of drought and development ofnew irrigation technologies as a solution to drought adaptation in the Kowsar dam basin.A hydrological and a mathematical planning model be combined that can explicitly address socio-economic with all dimensions related to drought. The results showed that by increase in water efficiency in the agricultural sector, water consumption in this sector can be reduced, without reducing economic efficiency or quality of life. In other words, the development of new irrigation technologies and the consequent increase in water use efficiency in the agricultural sector leads to water storage for farmers and encourages them to cultivate high-yield crops with high water consumption, which improves the economic situation of farmers.
